wall heater thermostat?

Question by jmac2955: wall heater thermostat?
I cannot get my heater to go on. It’s a wall heater with a wall mounted thermostat. About six months ago I had a similair problem but it corrected itself. After a few hours. I’ve checked the pilot light and it is on. Just wondering if they is a way to check the thermostat prior to purchasing a new one.

Thermostats are cheap. you can get on of the digital ones for 20 bucks. You would need a volt meter to properly check if it is working electrically. Then you need to detach it and take it like near a fireplace where it is warm. If it does not register a temperature difference, it is busted. and you may need to check the gas unit itself. those things are notorious for going out after not being used all summer.
