how does solar energy work

how does solar energy work

Solar heat collectors absorb solar power, and then convert that radiation into heat. The heat is then transferred into a usable medium, most sometimes water or antifreeze fluid ( which will not freeze in cold weather ).

The heat must then be stored, and since copper, painted black, absorbs,
stores and conducts heat efficiently, it’s the medium most typically used.
And, since the heat mustn’t be lost, it’s got to be insulated, with fiberglass insulation, for instance.

There are two basic types of active solar heating systems. They differ
according to the sort of liquid heated within the solar collector : liquid or air. Liquid Systems : The solar collectors used in liquid space heating systems are the same as those used for domestic solar water heating. The most common type of solar collector used is a flat-plate collector, but evacuated tube and concentrating collectors are also used.

The solar power is caught by a

The maintenance job at the retirement community was only a temporary gig, and this is where I work during the summer. This video shows the window air-conditioners and baseboard heaters at my work, as well as some of the building’s other unique features. It used to be a multifamily home, and it still has a fireplace, and a full bath with half a bathtub. Enjoy!

Electric baseboard heaters wont work?

Question by Cynthia: Electric baseboard heaters wont work?
Hi,

I just bought this new house and we had inspectors go through with us, and all the heaters worked. Now that we moved in, it seems like the day after we moved everything in, at least 3 heaters do not work. We have the thermo at max and they are still ice cold.

I am a complete noob when it comes to this, so I am not even sure what to look for. We have alot of switches in the house that don’t do anything, so I am assuming those are for power sockets.

There are some heaters that have a turny-knob thing, I tried turning it and it clicked but still nothing happened. My bf checked the fuses, they are all good.

What else should we do to troubleshoot?

Thanks.

Answer by Jeff K
Call your inspector back and have him confirm they are not working.

Other possibilities:

Could there be a fuse on the heater elements themselves? Circuit breaker in the basement shut?

Thermostat set to heat with high temperature selected?

Do those electric portable fire places work good? can you tell me a good electric heater wall or portable?

Question by Leah: Do those electric portable fire places work good? can you tell me a good electric heater wall or portable?
Do those electric portable fire places work good? can you tell me a good electric heater wall or portable i live in a motor home and need electric heat because i think it is safer and cheaper then my propane heat i need try save money ..i got laid off

thanks please suggest good heats and leave links i need nothing over 130 just tell me if those fireplace heaters work and what other kind you would suggest for a motor home 35 ft

Electric “portable fireplaces” are basically an electric heater with a fancy decoration.

IF your propane heater is a ducted type, (found on larger motor homes,) the electric heater will NOT be as efficient at heating the entire home, but will work well in a “limited” area, in part depending on how well the home is insulated.

I assume you are NOT running a generator to supply power. If you are using a generator, then the propane heater is cheaper to run as well as more efficient “overall”.

My wall heaters won’t work in multiple rooms and the only thing they share is the same breaker?

Question by KLS10: My wall heaters won’t work in multiple rooms and the only thing they share is the same breaker?
Here’s the deal:
I live in a 1 BDRM condo that has Electric Heat. I have two thermostats – 1 in my main living area that triggers 2 different in-wall heaters, and 1 in my bedroom that triggers a baseboard heater. I came home the other day to find that none of my heat works but all my other electricity does. The only thing I believe that they share is the same breaker circuit. I checked the breaker – its not tripped. I even switched it back and forth and still no heat. I cleaned out my wall heaters in case they were clogged and “pushed reset buttons” on both and still nothing. Is this an electrical issue with my breaker?

Please help?
Also, both my thermostats seem to be working properly because they make a click sound when you switch them to a certain temperature that is warmer than the temp in the room.
Turns out it was a faulty breaker.

sounds like an electrical problem. Either the breaker is bad, or there is some other kind of electric cut off switch in the line.

Does the condo complex have a master breaker that all of the heating units are on?? Did you ask around to see if anyone else has a similar issue?

why only some of my baseboard heaters work when they’re all connected to the same forced hot water system?

Question by amitooblou: why only some of my baseboard heaters work when they’re all connected to the same forced hot water system?
only three of the baseboards in my house are working, they are all on interior walls. but they are connected to the same forced hot water system as the ones that arenot working. last year whenever the heater kicked on there would be a wooshing sound from the water going through the pipes, but not this time. i felt all the pipes in the basement and they all are hot, so what gives?

Answer by RICH @www.hvac-for-beginners.com
Sometimes air can get trapped in the system. It can stop the water from flowing and therefore keep the radiator from working. For more info, check the boiler page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com

Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating ? How Does It Work?

Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating ? How Does It Work?

So, you’re sold on the idea of underfloor heating. Of course, the question “What kind of system do I get?” Floor heating comes in three varieties: electric, hydraulic (liquid), and air-based systems. The hydraulic system is the most popular, for reasons that will soon be announced.

The “how” of the hydraulic floor heating is fairly simple. A boiler heats the water that is pumped through your house. The water flows through aNetwork of tubing that sits just below your floor, radiating the heat outwards, so that you have a nice, consistent heat that are the hallmark of the floor heating systems.-Floor heat

This method provides a very efficient system. In fact, the most popular
