Room Heaters-?create Your Own Cozy Space?
Room Heaters-?create Your Own Cozy Space?
Room heaters also known as space heaters are a good option to go for in case a central heating system is insufficient or is too costly to install or operate. As the name suggests room heaters are meant for heating rooms and small closed spaces. They are easy and economic way of boosting and regulating the temperature of rooms used by individuals who are sensitive to cold, especially elderly persons, without overheating your entire home.
Most commonly used room heaters use electricity as a fuel but there are some that operate on propane, natural gas, and kerosene. The general capacity of a room heater ranges between 10,000 Btu to 40,000 Btu per hour. You can choose a convection heater or a heater based on radiant heating. If it is a small room, being used for few hours then go for radiant heaters since they avoid the energy needed to heat the entire room by instead directly heating the occupant of the room and the occupant’s immediate surroundings.

are space heaters cheaper to run than electric baseboard heaters?
Question by matthew b: are space heaters cheaper to run than electric baseboard heaters?
Best answer:
Answer by wiredguy1
this depends entirely on the amount of electricity used by each appliance. more info is needed. but for the most part, no. most baseboard heaters run on 240 volts. space heaters run on 120 and will use around 1500 watts to run. the same amount of heat with baseboards heaters will use 1/2 that much.

Space Heaters: Convenient, Energy Efficient And Incredibly Useful
Space Heaters: Convenient, Energy Efficient And Incredibly Useful
Space Heaters are used when main heating system is inadequate or central heating is too costly to install or operate. Space heaters are self-contained, free-standing air heating appliance intended for installation in the space being heated and not intended for duct connection. If you only want to heat one room or supplement inadequate heating in one room, space heaters are less expensive. They can also boost the temperature of rooms used by people who are sensitive to cold without overheating your entire home. Electric space heaters are the only unvented space heaters that are safe to operate inside of your home. They also avoid indoor air quality concerns.
Most space heaters rely on convection heating which is the circulation of air in a room. The best convection space heaters incorporate a heat transfer liquid, such as oil, heated by an electric element. Heat transfer fluid provides some heat storage, allowing the heater to cycle less and to provide a more

Radiant heaters work like the sun by warming people and objects. Radiant heaters without fans are not designed to heat an entire room, but excel at providing instant heat for one or two people.
Two examples of radiant heaters without fans are radiant heat panels and parabolic heaters.
Radiant heat panels are constructed with the heating element embedded in the panel. By virtue of their simplicity, they are safe, reliable and maintenance free.
The Presto Parabolic Heat Dish is a cost effective choice for workshops or garages when you want to heat just you and not the entire building.

Micathermic Flat Panel Heaters: The Next Generation Space Heater
Micathermic Flat Panel Heaters: The Next Generation Space Heater
Micathermic flat panel heaters are lighter and faster heating alternative to traditional oil column heaters.
Utilizing the principal of convection heating, where warm air attracts cool air, a micathermic heater quickly heats the average sized room.
The fast a heater can bring a room up to temperature, the less power it uses.
Micathermic heating combines technology from both convection and reflective heating to efficiently heat air and surfaces. This mix of heating methods distributes warn air throughout the room more evenly than conventional heaters.
Some flat panel heaters can be used with a stand as a floor heater, or detached from the stand and hung on the wall just like a picture. When set on the floor, wheels allow it to be easily moved from room to room; when mounted on the wall, it’s out of your toddler’s reach.
Micathermic heaters weigh 50% less than traditional oil column
Natural Gas Space Heater or Electric Baseboard Heaters?
Question by ashill34: Natural Gas Space Heater or Electric Baseboard Heaters?
I’ve got a 4BR apartment in New York City. Rooms are about 100-130 sq ft each with a common area of about 250 sq ft. In terms of installation costs, energy costs, and actual effectiveness, what are the advantages/disadvantages of either putting in a giant natural gas space heater (like 100k BTU’s, something for around 0) in the main area, or installing baseboard heating in each of the rooms and main area?
Each of the rooms would probably be used a good deal, as this is an apartment I’m renting out to people. I don’t own either, just subleasing, and I am aware the owner is required to provide heat because it’s NY law, it’s a long story…

Answer by Thankyoumam
If the rooms aren’t normally used, a space heater might be best.
Space heaters use a lot of energy so can get expensive for frequent heating, and the units take up space.
I assume you own this place, in which case 0 doesn’t seem like much.

Staying Warm This Winter: What’s the Right Approach – a Crawl Space Heater or Proper Insulation?
Staying Warm This Winter: What’s the Right Approach – a Crawl Space Heater or Proper Insulation?
We’ve had some very frigid days in the northeastern US and Canada the last few weeks. Those of us who have a crawl space underneath part of our home have felt plenty of chilly floors underfoot and cold air on our ankles.
You may think that putting a heater in your crawl space will leave you with warmer feet. But in fact sealing and insulating your crawl space will not only address your indoor discomfort with cold, drafty floors, it will also avoid problems such as mold and rot in the crawl space itself, and will improve the health of your home overall.
For starters, let’s clear up a common mistake about the air flows in a crawl space. For many years, homeowners, homebuilders, and building inspectors have believed that a crawl space needs exterior venting on opposite walls, so that air can flow from one vent to the other, drawing out any extra dampness from the enclosed space. But the most recent studies show that ventilating a crawl space creates a very
Wall heaters vs. space heaters???
Question by Jennifer F: Wall heaters vs. space heaters???
My house has heaters in the walls that have electric coils in them and that is the house’s only heat source. The one in my living room does not heat the whole room well because it is a large room. I was thinking about getting an additional space heater to set at the other end of the room during the day. My question is- do the space heaters use a great deal more electricity than the wall heaters? It seems like they would use about the same to me, but I want to be sure.
Best answer:
Answer by wiredguy1
this question depends on the heater type used. all heaters have a rating on the nameplate that states the wattage used, the higher the wattage the more electricity it will use. bear in mind that any appliance that creates heat uses a lot of power. if you can get another source of heat, you will save money.

only if you can choose which rooms to turn the baseboard heaters on and some off. I have electric central heat but most of my rooms were unused, so got a electric heater with blower, and it kept my bedroom and bath very warm. My electric bill also went way down.
