installed a new thermocoupler and pilot stayed for about twenty minutes. during that time I tried to turn the heater on but nothing happened. I also jumped the thermostat wires to no avail.
After the twenty minutes the pilot does not stay on at all. Any help will be appreciated. Don’t tell me to call a seviceman.
If anything, I will replace the whole unit myself.

If you can’t figure out the pilot light without help, you definitely can’t repair the whole unit yourself. Call a repairman before you have to take a trip to the emergency room after the firemen put out the house fire.

I just bought this unit brand new and am using a correct size 100lb. propane tank with a regulator attached to the tank. The flame on pilot and main burner is too high. Can i adjust this? and how do i do it? I don’t see any pilot adjustments. Can it be the little plastic set screw on my regulator outside? How do i adjust THAT?? I know i can get an allen key and turn it in or out , but which way will give less pressure?

For this heater to work correctly you need to adjust the gas pressure to 11 inches of water column with a manometer you should not just try to turn it down
This heater has an ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) type pilot and it will not work correctly if the pressure is off by very much.
One question that I was wondering about: are you sure the heater was made to use LPG, or is it made for natural gas. That would give you the problem you are describing.
BTW if you have to ask which way to turn the regulator perhaps you should be asking “should I’ rather than “how should I”

It happens to me sometimes too. The only time it seems to happen is if I have the kitchen windows open and it’s windy out. The wind tends to blow out the pilot light. Keep an eye on it it can be very dangerous in the winter time if gas can build up in your kitchen and all doors/windows are closed.

Actually, I lit it successfully, but I can’t get the heater turned on fully. I started the gas by turning the second dial to ‘pilot’ and pressing it in, and when it started to hiss, I lit it. It stayed with only the pilot lit for 8 minutes before I turned it back off. I didn’t really know how long I was supposed to leave it like that. The heater in my last place kicked in 5 minutes after the pilot light was lit.I had the first dial turned to ‘high’. Why didn’t the heater kick in?
It has two dials, the first says ‘Low 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 High’ and the other dial says ‘pilot’ on the bottom and ‘On’ and ‘Off’ on the top. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

It doesn’t have a thermostat, but that’s obvious, right? lol

Thermocouple is bad or too far from pilot flame or pilot flame is too small. Search yahoo answers for a thousand answers to the same question.

You turn the gas dial to pilot and push the knob down and hold it down while you light the pilot.After a fer minutes you can turn the knob to the on position.

This is better. At least you asked something. Check to see if you have fuel. Turn knob to pilot, push down and push ignition button down a few times until it lights. Hold for 15 to 20 sec and then let off and turn to desired heat setting.

I may have left the thermostat on but the pilot light off on my sister’s gas wall heater. Will this emit natural gas or since the pilot light is off will the flow of natural gas be blocked?
It’s a gas wall heater, not a water heater.
So, Chris, what you’re saying is that if the pilot light is not lit, even if the thermostat wants to turn on the heat, the gas will not flow because the pilot light is not lit? Therefore, the house is safe?

It is blocked, there is a thermocouple that measures the pilot temperature, if it is not hot the gas will not turn on.

You might need a new gas valve. I work at an apartment community and when that happens, the gas valve is most likely at fault.
