I have a gas wall heater from my old house that had an outdoor tank. My new house has city gas. ?
Question by shovelhead_greg: I have a gas wall heater from my old house that had an outdoor tank. My new house has city gas. ?
Is there any difference? Can i run my old heater as it is?
Best answer:
Answer by JC R
It’s probably different (propane vs natural gas), so I’d say probably not. Some heaters will run both but they’re not common. Call your gas company – they will tell you for sure.

In all heaters there should be a thermostat, check that it’s operating and it’s not turned right down, if it is although there is power going to them they won’t heat up,…… good luck.

I live in a house built in 1955. I need to replace the coils in the wall heaters for two baths. Any help?
Question by Tim K: I live in a house built in 1955. I need to replace the coils in the wall heaters for two baths. Any help?
Best answer:
Answer by Aaron W
Drain the water heater. Shut off the electricity to the water heater. Most have panels, unscrew the panels and depending on the model pull the heating coils out according to directions on the panel. Replace coils via the same method. Put the panels back on and turn electic back on.
It’s not difficult for a DIY project.

Can Electric meters on a apt or house differ in how they operate, calculate KWh ?
Question by blah: Can Electric meters on a apt or house differ in how they operate, calculate KWh ?
I live in a house with 4 apt’s. All three of us have a landis model electric meters running out electricity, but the one aprt at top, best apt here has (GE meter model electric meter)?
I notice she dont; compain about high bills only all three of us.
-3 same meters, landis brand and one GE meter brand ?
The other apartment has had a replacement meter, brand new one. hasn’t changed the PUC consumption one bit ??
Is our 3 meters ridged, or tampered by utility company before brought in ? we all have baseboard heaters, I guess they can blame our usuage on that ? Could i have a junction point spliced with top floor, using my bill ?
any suggestion on this ?

the meters are tested befor they are installed. i dont think the chances are very high of you have a bad meter. either she isnt using much electric heat or she could be tied into others.. ive seen that alot over the years. only way to find out is to have access to her apt, turn your main off and see if anything goes out.. or turn her main off and see if anything is still on

What’s the best heating system to install in this house?
Question by whitewolfe: What’s the best heating system to install in this house?
We are considering purchasing a home that has no conventional heating system and no basement. It was originally a hunter’s cabin that was added onto over the years. It’s a very interesting home with lots of great features and a LOT of land, but it basically has no heating system and no basement in which to install a furnace. This home is in Massachusetts.
The previous owners used only a wood burning stove and space heaters. I don’t want to rely on the stove, I would prefer conventional heating. What kinds of heating systems could be installed without spending megabucks?
I think electric baseboard would be the easiest, but I hear it’s not a great choice for cold climates. I’ve also heard about radiant floor heat, and found a company online that says it will only cost .50 square foot to install (the home is no more than 1500) and that seems pretty cheap, and from what I can understand, it’s more efficient? But doesn’t the floor have to be ripped up?
What would be best?
Well, it has absolutely nothing underneath the house, but it does have a decent, clean crawl space in between the 1st and 2nd floors, if that is what you mean.
A system can be installed in there? There is no attic. Interesting thoughts about the radiant heat, I didn’t realize that they were water pipes.

I think radiant floor heating would work well in a place like that, but it would mean having to redo pretty much every floor in the house. It is, however, quite efficient. I think the cost return would be good as well and add value to the place should you decide to resell later.

How efficient are radiators for heating a house?
Question by Nessus: How efficient are radiators for heating a house?
My wife and I are in the process of shopping for our first house. We found one that is almost perfect for us, but I’m a little worried about the furnace. It’s pretty old, but looks very well maintained. The type of heat is listed as “hydronic” which means the furnace supplies the multiple radiators around the house. I have no experience with this type of furnace. Any information about them would be appreciated.
Best answer:
Answer by sensible_man
Normally, hydronic systems have a boiler that heats water or produces steam. Hot water or steam will then flow through the piping and radiators to heat the house. I feel these are the absolute best type heating systems because they don’t kick on and off with blasts of air. They make everything in the house the same temperature. This is easier on wood furnishings. They don’t expand and contract. The downside is that you need a different (seperate) system for air conditioning.

Heating The House With A Beautiful Wall Mounted Electric Heater
Heating The House With A Beautiful Wall Mounted Electric Heater
There are many ways to heat one’s home. Some of the options for heating a home are temporary options, while others are more permanent. Of the more permanent options, a wall mounted electric heater is one of the most efficient options, not to mention being a very attractive option as well. There are a number of reasons why a wall mounted heater unit is the best choice.
Reason 1 – Efficiency
Electric heaters have come a long way in the past few years in terms of efficiently providing heat within a room. There are various methods that use electricity to heat a home and all of them provide heat to a room in an energy efficient manner. Simply using room heaters over whole-house heat can be more efficient in some instances. In most cases, it makes little sense to heat a bedroom or home office all day when the home occupants are at work and it makes even less sense to keep a room dedicated to storage or occasional use, warm all the time, when that

My baseboards have little black caps that screw off, and if one is loose, it will leak. Give it a try
