wall heater pilot will not stay on?
Question by Robert M: wall heater pilot will not stay on?
installed a new thermocoupler and pilot stayed for about twenty minutes. during that time I tried to turn the heater on but nothing happened. I also jumped the thermostat wires to no avail.
After the twenty minutes the pilot does not stay on at all. Any help will be appreciated. Don’t tell me to call a seviceman.
If anything, I will replace the whole unit myself.

If you can’t figure out the pilot light without help, you definitely can’t repair the whole unit yourself. Call a repairman before you have to take a trip to the emergency room after the firemen put out the house fire.

Call your local supplier of oil, propane, or natural gas. They have trained professionals to either repair or replace the heaters.
Sometimes when things are “old”, they are also way too inefficient, and at that point it makes sense to get a new one.
Even though a new one might cost a few more bucks up front, you end up saving in the long run, because an efficient unit uses less fuel. And plus, you’ll feel safer knowing that its not going to conk out in the middle of the night and flood your house with carbon monoxide and kill everyone.
OH, by the way go buy yourself some carbon monoxide detectors while your out shopping for xmas presents.
Nothing says “happy holidays” better than in laws that are still alive and well.

Q&A: What is the wattage of a 42″ Toshiba Regza TV? How about a wall heater (found in apartments)?
Question by Anvera12: What is the wattage of a 42″ Toshiba Regza TV? How about a wall heater (found in apartments)?
I believe I’m being ripped of by my electric company. I know this winter’s been cold, but from a bill to a 6 bill is kind of outrageous. I can do the calculations myself (I’m a mechanical engineer) but can’t seem to find this information on the ‘net. Any help will be appreciated.
How about when you use 4 of the wall heaters, and then go to 1 heater to save on electricity and the bill goes up? To me, it sounds like there’s something wrong. Also, I live in a 2-bedroom apt. It’s just me- not there most of the day. And to me, it is really high, compared to my bf’s, which he pays like for this month (of course, it’s a different county).

6 for home heating is not outrageous. To start with you need to check the kilowatt hour rates for the periods you are comparing, mine jumped 20% last fall when a fixed rate period ended. You should be able to find the wattage of both on a plaque next to the power cord/electrical. Of course, with the TV, it may be against the wall. A small space heater is usually 15 amps or 1.8 kilowatt hours per hour of on time. A wall heater may be higher.
The owners manual, here http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=42HL167 should have the data. Unfortunately, my attempts end when 346 of 376 Mb are done. Since it is an LCD with back lighting, I would guess 200-300 watts when on.

Solar Water Heater Plans – Find Out What The Best Ones Are
Solar Water Heater Plans – Find Out What The Best Ones Are
There really are no top solar water heater plans, as they all encompass their good qualities as well as their bad; however, one of the simplest and most efficient plan that I have came across was the Khanh solar water heater. This was a “make it yourself” item which appeared in the Mother Earth Magazine during June of 1977.
The unit basically was a used 66 gallon hot water tank, which had been coated with stovepipe flat black paint. An inventor named Dinh Khanh designed and built the unit for only 0 dollars. This particular sun powered water heater was about as effortless to construct as you will ever find.
The water tank was enclosed within an insulated framework which was sheltered on the top with a section of Plexiglas. When Khanh bolstered his solar collector adjacent to a southern facing wall, he was able to preheat his water to a tepid 100 degrees. The cost savings to him was substantial and reached as much as 50 percent of his total hot water
Window Heater, makes more heat, can stay all year
youtube}
We made this window heater a few years back. It works great. It is all wood and only have aluminum inside for thermal storage. I need to replace some of the tinfoil. This unit can heat my 590sq/ft mobile home by itself when the temperature outside is above 40 F and the sun is shining. Above 50 F and it will be to hot inside. The temperature inside the unit gets up to 130 F. This unit saved me a lot of money back when I used oil to heat. It has 3 pieces of glass We got from Lowe’s. Each class has a rubber double sided tape type of foam seal. The lead works both to close the unit in the summer and in the winter the aluminum makes the unit produce extra heat. So we don’t have to take it down in the summer. I almost forgot. The wood was all free, yes I recycled it. this play small like wood all winter, so find a wood that smell good to you and use it. I did not paint the sides of the unit black because I do not want it making heat in the summer. That being said, i do need to look at painting it some color, maybe white of blue. The next one I make would have the cross pieces inside painted black. I may go back later and make the unit self closing to prevent airflow at night. This unit is also facing west so it starts making heat around noon. I would add one to the east side but did not have a window there. The south side has trees blocking the sun. This video shows the “Direct to Air” Solar Heater Installation to capture Free Heat from the Sun. This system is an environmentally sustainable green heating solution that will lessen our dependence on fossil fuels and significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. For anyone concerned about the environment or if you just want to save money on your heating bills. This is the “Free Fuel” heater – the cost of sunlight never goes up! Once you own the unit, the fuel is free. The system will last for decades providing free heat and environmental benefits. Regardless of what you call the system – solar panels, solar collectors, solar heaters or my favorite – the “Free Heat” Machine, you’ll have to agree that the planet needs these systems if we’re ever going to wean ourselves from fuels like natural gas, propane, heating oil, diesel and other fossil or carbon-based fuels. This system may not be the total solution, but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s affordable and compares to a high efficiency gas furnace in return on investment. That’s right solar heat is now also affordable heats and easily compares to the fossil fuels – even the “cheapest” fossil fuel right now – natural gas. The only difference is that with this solar heater, the price of your fuel never goes up. Solar heating has never been more affordable. Check out the video! Reduce your environmental footprint and go green!

my polit light went out on my gas wall heater, where do I light it?
Question by Todd Enterprises, Inc. /: my polit light went out on my gas wall heater, where do I light it?
there is a red button that says pilot I know I push it in to light but where exactly do I put the match? also what color is the flame suppose to be?
Best answer:
Answer by Big_Prichard
There should be an opening towards the bottom of the heater, you want to get that open, look in there with a flashlight and you should be able to see the pilot. (It looks like a little tube; mine has two right next to each other, but only one is the pilot) You want to get a long match and light it with that.
The flame should be blue for the most part (when the pilot is lit)

Replacing Your Hot Water Heater – No Plumber Required
Replacing Your Hot Water Heater – No Plumber Required
If you are replacing the old water heater with a new unit that is similar to the old one, you will not find it very difficult to replace it. Moreover, if you follow the steps below, it will certainly make your task much easier.
– Shut off the water supply
– If you have a gas heater, shut off the gas supply, or if you have an electric heater, turn off the power supply.
– The next step is to drain the water from the tank. If you do not have a floor drain underneath the valve, you can connect a hose to the drain valve, near the base of the tank. Run it to a nearby drain or outdoors, and then open the valve.
– Unscrew the inlet and outlet fittings from the top of the tank, using two wrenches.
– If you have a gas water heater, turn off the gas inlet valve. Disconnect the union or flare fitting between the gas supply pipe and the inlet valve. You can use two wrenches to disconnect the same. You will also find a flue hat at the top of the tank. It expels
