Space Heaters: Convenient, Energy Efficient And Incredibly Useful

Space Heaters: Convenient, Energy Efficient And Incredibly Useful

Space Heaters are used when main heating system is inadequate or central heating is too costly to install or operate. Space heaters are self-contained, free-standing air heating appliance intended for installation in the space being heated and not intended for duct connection. If you only want to heat one room or supplement inadequate heating in one room, space heaters are less expensive. They can also boost the temperature of rooms used by people who are sensitive to cold without overheating your entire home. Electric space heaters are the only unvented space heaters that are safe to operate inside of your home. They also avoid indoor air quality concerns.

Most space heaters rely on convection heating which is the circulation of air in a room. The best convection space heaters incorporate a heat transfer liquid, such as oil, heated by an electric element. Heat transfer fluid provides some heat storage, allowing the heater to cycle less and to provide a more

Energy Efficient Heating – Panel Heaters

Energy Efficient Heating – Panel Heaters

When it comes to heating our homes and offices we want solutions that are economical to run as well as functional and efficient. Ideally, would like to be able to control when we have heat. We do not want a heater that spoils the look of our room, nor do we want one that takes up too much space.

Each room in our home has different requirements as far as heat is concerned. We may wish one room to be heated constantly because that is where we spend most of our time. On the other hand we may want our bedroom heated for only a short time just to take the chill out of the air last thing at night before we go to bed or as we are getting up in the morning.

Perhaps we use a particular room only occasionally but when we do we want instant heat. In the office for example, we only need heat during the day and wouldn’t want to heat it all night whilst no one is there.

Panel heaters can therefore be the most cost effective solution when we need to

What are some more efficient baseboard electric heaters?

Question by iswaswill: What are some more efficient baseboard electric heaters?
Are they 220VAC supplied or 120? Are the older ones just as good as the newer ones?

Best answer:

Answer by johntindale
resistance heat is one of the more costly methods of heating a space. The reason is that resistance heaters are rated in kilowatts, and are governed by the laws of conservation of energy.
3413 X (Service voltage)2
(Label voltage) 2 X KW name plate rating
220v uses less Kh/ hr than 110, since your starting voltage is higher.

one way to maximize effiency is to tile the floor, or lay tiles under the baseboard heaters, with a good heavy ceramic or terra cotta tile. The tile will “store” the heat and continue to radiate heat when the thermostat isn’t in operation.
Energy savings comes during “off cycles” (when the appliance isn’t running) so set the temperature as low as you can.

What low-cost, safe efficient options do I have to replace gas wall heaters?

Question by elle55407: What low-cost, safe efficient options do I have to replace gas wall heaters?
I am looking at flipping a house that uses gas wall heaters…at least they are gas heaters of somesort…but very old, with a huge pipe going out the wall…and I would like to know what options do I have to remove these big lugs for something safer and more efficient? (And yes, I already know I will not be removing and replacing them myself, but hiring a heating professional!) Thanks in advance for your responses.
Knuckles – No. They are not steam. They are gas heaters. I know what steam heaters look like…radiators…I have them in my own home. There is an actual heater and pipe going out the wall in each room. A pilot light is present in each heater, and they have their own flame when lit.

Electric heaters is what I’m thinking about using in a house that has the same problem. The kind that will look like baseboard heat. Need to call an electrician to do it. About pulling the gas out. Just get the gas men to unhook it. Then it’s just copper pipe in the house. Take the pipe to a recycle place because it’s very valuable.

Is an electric fireplace more efficient than a baseboard heater?

Question by Saskwatchanakwa: Is an electric fireplace more efficient than a baseboard heater?
I have a house that is heated by baseboard heaters and I am thinking of getting a electric fireplace for the living room. Both are 2000W. The fireplace will have a fan – which will use more energy, but spread the heat through the room faster. Which one will be more energy efficient?

Baseboard heaters are scattered throughout the house on exterior walls and radiate heat in. I suspect they will be more efficient.

Propane Heaters Are Energy Efficient And Environmentally Healthy

Propane Heaters Are Energy Efficient And Environmentally Healthy

When you think of propane heaters, do you picture those big lumpish outdoor propane tanks, or the portable outdoor terrace heaters? Think again. Propane heaters have changed rather a lot during the last couple of years and a propane heater or furnace can be an energy efficient, cheap way to heat homes, especially with rising power costs. Actually, new propane heaters are about 92-94% efficient, and habitually supply hotter air than any other heater, costing about 50% less per BTU than other types of heaters.
And, forget the torpedo shaped cylinder which formerly marked houses with propane heat, new tanks are now built underground.

Wall heaters are commonly used in room additions, mobile houses or homes where space is at a premium. Little and cost-effective, wall heaters should be vented to run most efficiently. Central furnaces are the most energy efficient sources of heat. These furnaces have flexible venting systems that may be

What is the most efficient type of electric baseboard heat (permanent install)?

Question by markm: What is the most efficient type of electric baseboard heat (permanent install)?
I am looking to replace some 40-year-old electric baseboard heating units, hopefully with something more efficient. There doesn’t seem to be any standardized energy efficiency rating system for these, and i have yet to find a serious objective performance/efficiency comparison of the many available brands.

Also, i am wondering if the initial (considerably greater) expense of hydronic-type heaters pays off in the long run with substantial electric-bill savings.

Personal experiences welcomed.

Electric heat is the most expensive in the long run BY FAR! You’re on the right track with the hydronic- type. Power it with a solar evacuated tube system and watch the money build up in your bank account instead of flying out the window.

How efficient are radiators for heating a house?

Question by Nessus: How efficient are radiators for heating a house?
My wife and I are in the process of shopping for our first house. We found one that is almost perfect for us, but I’m a little worried about the furnace. It’s pretty old, but looks very well maintained. The type of heat is listed as “hydronic” which means the furnace supplies the multiple radiators around the house. I have no experience with this type of furnace. Any information about them would be appreciated.

Best answer:

Answer by sensible_man
Normally, hydronic systems have a boiler that heats water or produces steam. Hot water or steam will then flow through the piping and radiators to heat the house. I feel these are the absolute best type heating systems because they don’t kick on and off with blasts of air. They make everything in the house the same temperature. This is easier on wood furnishings. They don’t expand and contract. The downside is that you need a different (seperate) system for air conditioning.

What Are Some of the Most Efficient Home Heating Systems?

What Are Some of the Most Efficient Home Heating Systems?

Everyone wants to do what they can to save money these days, and many people are also concerned with the impact that they are making on the environment (or their “carbon footprint”).

A great way to save money on your energy bill each month and to do right by the environment at the same time is to evaluate the current heating system in your home and determine whether or not you need to upgrade to a newer, more efficient system.

Lots to Choose From

There are quite a few methods of heating your home, each has its benefits and each has its potential downsides. There are forced air systems, forced water systems (hydronic); electric baseboard heat and new styles of home heating alternatives are cropping up every single day. Your system could be powered by natural gas, by home heating oil or by electricity.

Some changes or renovations can bring about a lofty initial investment. Complete conversions from one
