contacted sears and a couple of other repair services and they said they don’t do this.

Call your local supplier of oil, propane, or natural gas. They have trained professionals to either repair or replace the heaters.
Sometimes when things are “old”, they are also way too inefficient, and at that point it makes sense to get a new one.
Even though a new one might cost a few more bucks up front, you end up saving in the long run, because an efficient unit uses less fuel. And plus, you’ll feel safer knowing that its not going to conk out in the middle of the night and flood your house with carbon monoxide and kill everyone.
OH, by the way go buy yourself some carbon monoxide detectors while your out shopping for xmas presents.
Nothing says “happy holidays” better than in laws that are still alive and well.
