Baseboard heating: Leave on or turn down when gone?

Question by Jen: Baseboard heating: Leave on or turn down when gone?
I have electric baseboard heaters. Should I turn them down when I’m gone or leave them at a constant temp, in order to save money?

Thanks!
I heard that if you turn it down, when you turn it back up it has to work twice as hard and costs more than just leaving it set at a constant temp. Is this true?

Any time you turn it down, you save money.

turn them down when youre gone if youre gone for over an hour and when you wont be in that particular room. baseboard is pretty inefficient, but it doesnt take long to heat up a room. i usually cut mine back to 62 when i’m not around

Turn it down. you’ll save $ from not running them and I also heard if your house cools down it actually holds heat in better.

Thermal lag comes to mind.Since this is a form of radiant heat one would believe it would have a longer recovery time, hence a higher cost.Am I wrong? Dunno

    Leave at 60 when gone

The best temp to turn it down to is 62. It doesn’t take that much to get it back up to 68 which is an ideal and recommended temp. You don’t say if you have children or elderly there as they want more heat. For healthy people 62 in the day when your gone and 68 when you get home.
