There have been dozens of manufacturers of fin tube element over the years. Our product is designed to fit on the vast majority of hot water baseboard heaters. The retrofitting guide on our site shows that you can have up to 3-1/4″ in depth away from the wall for a proper fit. Give us a call toll free for more details 1-800-834-5672

My problem is the actual heating element (copper tube and fins) is deeper then most. I just bought a standard cover assembly and it did not fit over the pipe and fins. I need it to stick out from the wall another 1/2″ or so. I’m guessing that since this cover fits under the same end caps it will not work either.

They are not supposed to retain heat, they are supposed to radiate it into the room. The whole idea is heat transfer, not heat retention!

Except to the extent that they are exposed to the outdoors, all radiators (new and old) are 100% efficient (same for electric resistance heaters). Biggest threat to the efficiency of a radiator installation is proximity to the outside. Sometimes, the pipes are routed too close to (or in) an outside wall. Another bad practice was to set the radiator into the wall so that the back plate was exposed to the outside air currents. Both problems can usually be mitigated with foam insulation.

I have the 1950’s style baseboard heaters and I love them. Why? They are cast iron and stay hot for a long period of time after the heat was off.

This new crap is made of lighter material which doesn’t retain heat as well as cast iron.

You can put new covers on your old heaters, but how efficient are they?? Technology has come a long way since 1957. The cost of them was not a big issue for me and they look great and are a good selling feature i you decide to sell your house.

  • konachai1:

All different prices for different sizes, i can’t remember but the smallest ones were about $25 and the largest are about $70 Canadian dollars, and they are way more efficient. I figure they have paid for them selves compared my ugly rusty, high energy consuming old ones.

  • pentogram23:

thanks for your reply but how much didi you pay if you don’t mind me asking??

  • konachai1:

I had old ones also and some were even rusty, I renovated my whole house, replaced all the baseboard heaters with new more efficient ones, including the wall thermostat, bought them a home depot, was not very difficult. Just all lot of different sized heaters, my house is 2700 sq ft 4 bedroom.

When a baseboard heater wraps around a corner it requires either an inside or outside corner piece. We offer both types of accessories in addition to the typical endcaps and coupler pieces. Hydronic baseboard heaters have not changed much in 50 years. We have many Customers that have older homes with hot water baseboard heating that just want to modernize the look of their old baseboards. Our one size fits most baseboard heater cover solution will likely fit the baseboards in your Sister’s home.

My sister has baseboard heating in her rowhome and they actully wrap around corners. Do you have cover/solutions for radiators that size? The home was built in the 50’s and its in all the rooms including the bath.
